As we reported, RichDevX made an untested patch, while many on IRC and on the forum tried to get it to work, it just wouldnt. NTAuthority a member of HaXNetwork, has successfully created a patch that works, here is a quote from his Read Me. Ds1307 Bascom Program Examples. As with the original application, this requires Windows 7 (any version) and a WLAN card in your computer for the initial pairing. Also, PS3 firmware 3.30+ is required to use PC Remote Play. As it is compiled with Visual Studio 2008, the Visual C++ 2008 runtime (non-SP1) is also required, but there’s enough chance you already have it installed (and Sony’s application requires it too).

If you don’t have the VAIO Remote Play application itself, download it from the official Sony site (and install. For full installation, make sure you read the Read Me and give NTAuthority thanks when you can.

I somehow caught this news in passing, tried it out and it turns out it's actually really really cool! For those familiar with remote play, you would know it can only done from a PSP, certain Sony phones and certain Sony Vaio notebooks.

Recently (as in a few days ago), a guy (NTAuthority) managed to create a working hack to allow the program to run on any Windows 7 PC. I downloaded the program (from ) and the hack (from - need to register) and simply followed the readme. It works perfectly! I have it running via wifi on my netbook, and via ethernet on my desktop which doesn't have wifi at all, and still works despite the initial report saying you need a WLAN card for the initial pairing. Note: my PS3 is connected via ethernet to my network. You can adjust the quality and response settings of the network from within the app, so for local networks I just cranked them as high as they would go and took some screenshots for y'all. Clearly the resolution isn't particularly awesome but for watching videos and tv it's really very good, and even fullscreen is ok.

For everything else, the text is a little blurry but still legible so you can get the job done. I've not tested this external to my home network, but if it functions like my PSP then you should be able to connect via the internet to achieve the same goals.

UPDATE: It looks like it can, see the second to last picture. Here it is on a 1920x1080 desktop (note: this image has been resized to 50%): The XMB: Crank some Vidzone while you surf the www!

Watch some TV, perhaps remotely record that program you forgot about: Download some sweet E3 videos from the PlayStation store: Or hire and download a movie remotely from work to watch later than evening: Start up options: When you quit. Click to expand.Actually I'm not sure it will.

The hack is to the windows client, so if you turn off the automatic update option it should work forever. It's not the PS3 that does the checking (to see if it's connected to a Vaio), it's the Sony software in windows that checks to see if it's installed on a Vaio else it won't run. Once you've done the hack the software will happily load. Given there isn't a huge amount they could do to the windows software to improve it (as it's really just a dumb terminal), I can't see a need to update the software often if ever.

I'm sure if they DO release new software with added functionality, it will be rehacked in short order. PS3 Security Cam * While in Remote Play you can go to 'Start new Chat' from there you will be in a chat room by your self but if you have the PS Eye camera hooked up you will be able to see what ever your camera is pointing.

* If you want to Hear through your PS Eye camera mic if somone is in the room heres the Trick- While in the Chat Room go to 'Chat Settings'-'Audio Device Settings' & change 'Input Device' to USB Camera & 'Output Device' to System Default- You will not hear sound while in Chat room but you can go into either 'Chat Settings' or in the 'Tools' section go to 'Voice changer' witch is better cause you can see camera better. ** Alternately if you have purchased Auquatopia game you can start it while it remote play press 'Start' Then 'Camera Check' You will get a slightly bigger video window than mentioned above but you will not be able to get any sound. Thanx to Gat305 for this tip.
