I am hving a problem with setting up a new HP Officejet 6500 multiprinter. Software sets up fine, but when I get to the point of the instructions telling me to plug in the USB, nothing happens. I tried to detect it with hardware wizard, but that does not 'see' the printer. I tried everything to fix it, even deleting all the files and reinstalling software from scratch.

Same result upon plugging in USB. Cord is good, I know that. Printer functions as it sees cartridges and prints test page upon cartridge install, etc. I have never had this problem installing a printer. Usually Plug & Play just finds it and installs drivers. Wish I had not purchased online. Maybe just got a lemon?
Test that the USB port on your computer (that you are plugging into) is working. Do not use a USB HUB. Plug a flash disk straight into the USB port you intend to use and see if the flask disk contents can be seen. Also the computer should give a 'did-doonk' sound when you plug in a USB gadget). Remove the printer end of the lead and make sure that you have the plug oriented correctly. Make sure the printer is turned on, and plug the computer end of the lead into the known good USB port on the computer (do not use a USB hub). It should make a 'did-doonk' sound.
